Senior Project Manager

Our client is recruiting an experienced Construction Project Manager to its niche Project Management and Cost consultancy. With origins around Oxfordshire, our client are moving towards a more flexible WFH model and consequently can encourage applications throughout the South East area but with preference to those based in the Oxfordshire, Berkshire or Surrey areas.
Their story is a well-established one, their core markets include leisure, education & heritage sectors. Amongst their wider portfolio, having just completed a £30m new build leisure scheme they’re seeking to bolster their project delivery team due to increased confidence in their pipeline. Typical projects are spread across the South of England / East / West and Wales. NEC contract is desirable as is ASTA Power project experience.

Our client centres itself on adding most value at pre-contract stages, ‘measuring twice, cutting once’ They spend twice as long planning a project as they do executing it. In a nutshell, they need someone who can manage a client & consultant teams two thirds of the time and who manages the Construction phase a 3rd of the time.
Key role responsibilities:
- Develop overall strategic project programmes identifying all key dates, activity dependencies and the critical path
- Implement effective project governance structures,
- Risk management – running workshops to establish risks at the outset of the project; devising and implementing strategies to mitigate/minimize risks
- Establish, agree and manage the procurement of design team members – often directing large consultants (working with the Cost Manager to implement procurement procedures, and arranging mid-bid, post bid and clarification meetings with contractors)
- Work with contractors to agree programmes, health and safety plans, method statements and quality control procedures
- Leading design team meetings and chairing regular project board meetings to update on progress and decisions
- Develop and sustain reporting mechanisms with clients,
- Establish and maintain good working relationships with colleagues and clients
- Contribute to the knowledge and development of the whole team via regular conference calls and our knowledge sharing platform
Essential skills:
- Experience of working as a Project Manager on construction projects, with suitable track record
- Technically qualified in project management or related technical profession
- Managing construction projects from inception to completion as lead
- Managing the procurement of design teams and contractors, risk and change
- Ability to lead with a professional can-do approach that inspires others in the project team to deliver their best
- Well organized, strategic thinker, pro-active and a team player. Excellent communication skills
- Valid driving license
Desirable:
- Membership of a relevant chartered institute – eg RICS; APM
- Knowledgeable in NEC3/4
- Experience of the leisure industry
- Sound IT skills (Common Data Environment Software)
- Understanding of local government procurement processes
